Privacy Policy — Safyah Site Reader
Effective date: October 9, 2026
Safyah Site Reader is a fast, beautiful feed reader with WordPress + RSS support, offline cache, and on-device text-to-speech. It is designed to be local-first: your feeds and reading stay on your device.
Summary
- No accounts. No sign-up, no login.
- No analytics, no advertising, no cross-app tracking.
- We do not run our own feed-tracking servers for your reading. The app connects directly from your device to the publishers you choose.
- Your feed list, cached articles, and settings are stored only on your device.
- Text-to-speech runs on-device via your operating system.
Data we do not collect
We do not collect, store, or share personal information such as your name, email address, precise location, contacts, or a history of what you read. We do not sell personal data.
Data stored on your device
To make the app work offline, the following stays on your device and is never sent to us:
- Feed sources you add (site URL, feed URL, site name).
- Cached articles and images for offline reading.
- App preferences such as appearance/theme.
- Playback state for read-aloud.
Deleting the app deletes this local data (subject to your OS backup behavior, if you have device backups enabled).
Network requests
When you add a source or refresh, Safyah Site Reader fetches WordPress REST API or RSS/Atom feeds directly from that publisher, using conditional requests (ETag / Last-Modified) to avoid re-downloading unchanged content. Those publishers receive standard technical information needed to serve the request, such as your IP address and a SafyahSiteReader/1.0 user-agent string. Their handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policies.
Source directory
To help you discover feeds to add, the app can query our public source directory (a read-only listing of publishers by location and topic). Discovery requests contain only the filters you choose, such as a country or an interest, and we do not store them alongside any identity — there are no accounts. Once you add a source, article fetching happens directly between your device and that publisher, as described above.
Text-to-speech
Read-aloud uses your device's built-in speech engine. Article text is processed on-device. No audio or article text is sent to us for speech synthesis.
In-app browser
When the app cannot extract an article's text, you may choose to open the original page in the in-app browser. That loads the publisher's page as-is — including their scripts and trackers — just like opening the link in a regular browser. The reader view remains tracker-free; the in-app browser is only ever used on your explicit request.
Permissions
- Internet access — to fetch feeds you added.
- Local storage — for offline cache and settings.
- Background refresh (where supported) — to update feeds.
- Notifications / media controls on mobile — to show read-aloud playback controls. No push marketing.
